The City of Wanneroo is planning for the future upgrade of the Wanneroo Recreation Centre precinct. The project aims to ensure our community facilities will meet the future demand and growth of our Central region.

LATEST UPDATES (JULY 2025)

  • ​The New Sports Hub project has progressed with a revised schematic concept design at the July OCM 2025, addressing environmental and safety requirements. The updated design repositions the building closer to Scenic Drive, reducing bushfire risks and environmental impacts while retaining functionality. ​ Community engagement is planned to inform stakeholders of these changes, with construction expected to begin in mid-2026 and completion by mid-2027. The project, estimated at $21.2M, faces a funding shortfall of $10.4M, with additional funding options under review.

HISTORIC UPDATES

  • Two Council Reports were presented to the November 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting requesting Council approval for the Provision of Architectural and Specialist Consultancy Services and the Provision of Cost Planner Services. Both items were passed, and the projects moves into detailed design phases for the Sports Hub.
  • The Wanneroo Recreation Centre Precinct Upgrade has been split into two projects. The Wanneroo Sports Hub and the Wanneroo Community Hub.
  • A Council Report came to the June 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting Council to consider the outcomes of community engagement for the proposed concept design of the Wanneroo Sports Hub, and future options for Wanneroo Recreation Centre Upgrades. 
  • A Council Report came to the July 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting Council with updated concept plans and estimated completion timeframes with the project being split into a Sports Hub and Community Centre precinct.
  • On Thursday, 9 September 2021 the State Government announced a $5 million commitment to the update of the Wanneroo Recreation Centre.
